An American iPhone in the UK?

I was on ebay, and the iPhone 4 in America is alot cheaper than the ones in UK.
But, I know I won't be able to use an American sim over here.
Is there anyway I can use a UK sim in it here?

Providing the phone is unlocked you should be OK.

You will need to have it unlocked, but also be awake of shipping costs and the import tax! I bought an american basketball jersey from the US because it worked out £20 cheaper but the import tax was about £30.

Virtually all iPhones in the US are locked to AT&T
so make sure they have unlocked it

Oh, and not Verizon.
Verizon is a CDMA system and not 3G/UMTS (world wide system)

if so, yes it should work.

You may also have to pay VAT and Duty on import, so beware

  • Would an American iPhone 5 work in the UK? I'm going to Florida in a few weeks and was wondering if I bought an unlocked iPhone 5 in an apple store whilst I'm there, would it still work properly if I inserted an O2 sim when I got home? I've been researching a little and on the US Apple website it said the unlocked iPhone 5 is available to any GSM carrier. So will O2 work?

  • Is an American iPhone the same as a UK iPhone? Like are all the internals the same? And would an American iPhone work here in the UK if you bought it unlocked? Everyone says all iPhones are the same round the world and I think it would work, but I was just confirming.
