Can i buy an unlocked at&t iphone and take it to tmobile?

I have at&t. It's been past 2 years and i'm due for a new phone, so i want to upgrade from my basic phone and get an iphone. I'm thinking of switching to tmobile but before i do, i was wondering if i can buy and unlocked at&t phone from amazon and take it to tmobile. Would tmobile accept it? Or would i be stuck in at&t for another 2 years?

Unlocked means you can use any carrier and if you have no contract left i don't see a problem.

If it is unlocked, then you may take it to T-Mobile.

However, T-Mobile uses the 1700MHz band and 2100MHz band for 3G and 4G service.AT&T smartphones lack this band; therefore, your iPhone would only be capable of 2G service.

The exception is if you live in an area where T-Mobile has 'refarmed' - here, you will be able to get 4G HSPA+ data speeds.

Hope this helps!

  • Will an unlocked iphone 4S work for tmobile if it isn't factory unlocked? I want to get an iPhone 4S and my friend has the iPhone 4 unlocked but i'm worried that if i get it non-factory unlocked it won't work. My uncle tried to do it a couple of months ago and apple said that if it was factory unlocked every time the phone shut off or died it would reset. I was just wondering if the same thing would happen if it wasn't factory unlocked? So if I get it unlocked everytime it will shut off it will reset? That is what i'm worried about.
  • Where can I buy unlocked iphones for tmobile? - 1 I was looking to purchase a new phone, but I'm not trying to pay full price from t-mobile. I heard I could buy unlocked iphones cheaper & still activate it with my account. Where can I look for unlocked iphones or any smartphone/android phone for a cheaper price? What do I have to do exactly to get it to work? How does it work? I just want to know what the best option is because I hear people getting iphones & smartphones way cheaper than the full price t-mobile has people paying.
  • Tmobile user should buy jailbreak iPhone or factory unlocked iPhone? Hello guys I'm a tmobile customer. I want a iPhone desperately. Now do you think it's worth it to save $650 for a factory unlocked iPhone. Or save a few bucks in buying an AT&T iPhone and jailbreaking it? What are the pros and cons of it. What do you think?
