Can I sell Sprint iPhone b4 ESN goes bad?

Alright I understand the basics. Here is something more complex, though:

Sprint is shipping me a new iPhone and it will be initially unactivated and have a clean ESN.

My question is, can I sell that phone and say it has a clean ESN since it WILL be clean at first? I guess it will go bad when I don't pay the bill at the end of the month…

Also, can a user unlock the phone before the ESN goes bad so that it can be free from getting a bad ESN? Or will the eventual bad ESN just be inevitable if I don't pay the Sprint bill?

Unlocking a phone only makes the phone unlocked, it has nothing to do with the esn, the esn will be entered in a shared master database of "bad esn" forever no matter what you do.

The person you you sell your phone to will probably be very angry with your act of fraud, as might the police.

  • Sprint iPhone 4 with bad ESN? So I just bought a Sprint iPhone 4 off of ebay this morning and I accidentally skipped over the part where it said "bad esn." My mom is really mad at me and I don't know what to do. Is there any way to use a phone with a bad esn? What should I do?
  • Is buying a iPhone with Bad ESN bad? I want to buy an iPhone 4 or 4s but it says bad esn. I'm not going to activate the phone to any provider. I just want it for Wi-Fi for home use. Is it bad to buy it or okay?
