Can I sue an adult for invasion of privacy?

My boyfriends step mom got him a phone. Well, the step mom and his dad broke up. But my boyfriend took the phone with him to their new place. But the step mom cut off the service and it was an iPhone so we could still text on iMessage Wi-Fi. Anyway, she shows up at their house& makes them give her the phone. As soon as she got it she read our messages. Then she gave the phone to her daughter's friend. They all got into it and read our messages& and the phone even had a password lock. There were dirty messages & I know it's my fault but you can't say you weren't a teenager once. They would have had to scroll a lot to find them anyway and it hurts me they did that bc I've always been nice to them. She then called my mom and told her everything. This caused me to have really bad anxiety. She said the 2 girls wouldn't ever tell anyone but I go to the same school as them so it's scary. I'm 16 years old and she is around her 40s. She is not related to me or my boyfriend in anyway. Is There anyway I could sue her for an invasion of privacy?

Maybe your boyfriend should have deleted the messages.

No. You can't sue. First of all, you can only sue someone for "damages". If you lost money or possessions that have a monetary value, you could sue for that. You can't sue for embarrassment. And secondly, if you're 16 you're a minor and can't sue anyone for any thing until you turn 18.

Lol, no. There's no "invasion of privacy". She owned the phone.

If you are a minor there's no expectation of privacy. If his mother bought the phone and set up the account, then it's her property
Maybe 16 year olds should't be sending or keeping dirty messages. It's her right to go through the messages as she is the legal owner of that phone

Suing would cost you thousands of dollars over something that is really kind of stupid… Yea, she crossed the line and acted like a child, but it's over… Far worse things happen to kids every day in this country… Get over it and move on…

Yes, I was a teenager once and never ever reached your level of stupidity.

You're a minor. Guess what? You have exactly zero privacy rights.

You can sue a ham sandwich if you want, but it may cost you 5K to get it started, gets thrown out before it even gets to court because the courthouse deems it stupid, and your money is now gone. Let us know how that works out for you.

  • Would you play adult truth or dare? Do you think that would be a sexy/fun thing to do with a partner? How would you feel about hearing about your partners past in truth questions? I was going through some questions on an iphone app, and some of them were things like "rate your past sexual partners from 1-10" and "how many one night stands have you had" Would you be comfortable with this? Just curious.
  • Where can I find adult iphone apps? I was looking for adult iphone apps at all the obvious places - the app store, Google play, and there's nothing. Does anyone know where I can find them?
  • Visited an adult website while I was on work's Wi-Fi? I watched an adult video on my iphone outside from work. I did not close it and headed off to the office. When I got to the office, my phone automatically connects to the works Wi-Fi which was password protected. So then I opened up the internet and realized that the adult site was still on the phone. This was 3 months ago and it actually happened on 2 occasions. Should I still be worried knowing that it was a while ago?
  • Virus on iPhone for browsing adult websites? A message popped up on my iPhone 5c yesterday saying my phone has picked up a virus for browsing "adult websites" What should I do?!
