Can You put your CD Collection on your iphone?

I have an iphone 4 and a hp laptop and was wondering if it was legal to put my old cds on my laptop and then transfer them to my iphone?

You purchased the music, you're simply converting it into another format, it's absolutely legal.

As Weston said, it is legal. I rip all my cd's onto my computer and keep the cd stored away safely

You purchased the cds already so yes it should be legal.

Totally legal! Everyone does that, it's what you're supposed to do. (without using the iTunes Store). Just do that via iTunes, then sync your phone. (like an iPod) It would only be illegal if you then transferred that music off your phone to a friend's computer. But that's near impossible, since the iPhone can only be synced with one computer at a time. If you sync with another, it erases the music on the iPhone (or iPod) and replaces it with the data on the new computer. So it's impossible to illegally share music.

I do it all the time, this explains the steps to do that http://www.justtext.com/messageboards/20130322165821.html?y715

I agree with the others in that you already paid for the music, which gives you the right to "back it up" as many times as you wish for YOUR use. Selling/giving it away/using it for gain, are not included in the user license you obtained by buying the music. I might make mention that there's a program available (for Mac, although I'm told there's a similar available for Windows) that allows downloading the music from the portable device (iPhone/iPad/iPod) to a computer. This can come in handy should you lose your iTunes library files on the computer and thus if you try to sync, will erase your music from the device. It is called Senuti. (iTunes spelled backwards!) It downloads all music files and saves them in a folder as mpg, aiff, etc as they were on the device. The latest version allows direct saving to iTunes if desired, which saves time compared to the older versions that required the downloaded music files to be dragged into iTunes.
