Car stereo won't play my ipod or iphone through usb port?

I have a brand new sony car stereo model #cdx-gt40uw xplod. Good quality stereo, but the only problem I have is the USB port. When I plug in the usb cord from my ipod touch or ipod 4s into the usb port which is located on the front of the stereo it will say "not recognized."

what's going on?

Also if anyone knows how to change the time on this thing it would help a lot too lol

Can't help you w/ the time, but run a firmware update on the iPod. I had a similar situation on my old Nano & it did the same thang when I plugged it into my cars factory USB.

  • Playing iPhone through car stereo? My car stereo does not have an aux port but it has a usb slot. If I used a usb to aux wire will my iPhone play through the stereo?
  • Play music from iPhone through car stereo? I have an older car with a cassette player but its broken and none of the cassette adapters work with it. I have an audio cable and I was wondering if attaching a USB head to one end and having the audio on the other end then plugging that into the cigarette lighter with one of those adapters would play music through my stereo?
  • Play iPhone through car stereo with good quality? Right now I have a Belkin think that goes into the 30pin plug of my iPhone and other end goes into the car outlet cigarette lighter thing and it plays but its not very good quality and it doesn't go very loud, not as loud as CDs. Is there a why to get my iPhone to play better sounding music without getting a new head unit/new speakers? CDs sound great in my car so its the speakers.
  • Pandora won't play through car speakers via USB? I currently drive a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu LT and I usually play Pandora on my iPhone via the USB out which is included in the sound systems inside the Malibu models. For a while everything played perfectly, but not it does not. When I plug it in, my car recognizes that it is plugged in and the name of the Artist and song appear on the sound system like normal. However, it only plays through the speakers on my phone. What is the problem? Should I get a different connection other than USB?
