Could a faulty charger cable cause an iPhone to crash?

Added (1). I'm using an iPhone 3GS. My battery was at around 45%, but the phone crashed (went to black screen with Apple logo). Then after about 5 minutes it rebooted itself. This happened 3 times.

Could it be the cheap aftermarket charging cable it was plugged into at the time, even though I had plenty of battery power left?

Nope, impossible for a charger to crash a phone. Because it's just inductors, diodes, voltage regulators smart charge IC etc… Unless it's intentionally sabotaged(highly unlikely). Anyways please use original charger because it is specially designed for your phone's battery to prolong it's lifespan. Especially iphone where the battery is not removable. So replacing one will be extremely expensive.

  • What is in an iPhone charger cable? I took apart my broken iPhone 4 charger cable and am curious about my findings. The first layer is the visible outer white plastic covering. Than there seems to be some sort of finely woven metal mesh. Under that of course, are the wires that care power to the phone. What is the woven mesh for, and what are the fine hairs in with the wires?
  • Twisted iPhone charger cable? How to fix it? I lay down while my phone charges in different directions the the end on the cord (next to the part that plugs in to my phone) is kinda twisted now my phone will stop and start to charge and and sometimes I have to hold it in specific directions for it to actually charge!
  • Third party iPhone charger? How fast can it cause damage? I have always known using third party no name iPhone chargers can wreck your iPhone and stop it from charging properly, so I avoided. But I plugged my iPhone into my friends charger which I realized after was not an apple charger, it was only plugged in for 5-10 minutes before I removed it- could it possibly have already done some damage to my phone? I can't tell if my phone is charging slower or if I'm worrying myself over nothing!
