Cutting sim card to fit iphone 4?

My contract ran out on my iphone 4 so i got an iphone 5, i want to give my iphone 4 to my dad but he has one of those big sim cards. Is it possible to cut it/where can i get it cut to fit the iphone 4? I rang t-mobile and they said 9/10 times it won't work.

The only reason for the cutting is so my dad can keep his old number instead of t-mobile giving him a new sim. Also can't tmobile give me a new nano sim with my dads old number on?

Most phone shops have a cutter and will do it for you - it's a device that looks a bit like a stapler - they put the big card in, squeeze the handle and the cut SIM pops out. I got one on eBay, I've cut 3 so far with 100% success.
Otherwise just tell your Dad's network store that you want to replace your SIM. It shouldn't be a problem though there might be a small charge

It would be better to ask them to give him a new micro sim and ask them to transfer the old number onto it. This can be done fairly easily.

  • Should i risk cutting my mini sim to a micro sim? I have a iPhone 3GS but i recently bought myself an iPhone 4. I found out that i will need a micro sim as opposed to a mini sim, but i was wondering if i should risk cutting it down with a kitchen knife or something. I'm currently with vodafone and have had my sim card for about a year if that affects it? Is it easy to do? What are the risks? Am i likely to mess it up? What are problems faced when doing this? Any extra info would be much appreciated.
  • I think I messed up cutting my sim card? I tried to cut my straight talk micro sim card to fit an iphone 5, which takes a nano sim. Now, my phone keeps searching for signal every few seconds, is that why?
