Does the Verizon iPhone 5 work with Tmobile?
My aunts contract will be ending her two year contract soon and upgrading to a new phone. I heard the iPhone 5 is compatible with GSM networks but then someone told me that the new apple update blocked it.
It does work with T-Mobile if you unlock the phone. There's always a controversy about Verizon phones being unlocked or not. So don't worry, ask your aunt to take the phone to Verizon and ask them to get it unlocked. Verizon will do it for free since the contract is up.
No. Not until it is unlocked. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA signals. Tmobile and ATT use GSM signals. The update doesn't have anything to do with it. It has to be unlocked. Have your aunt do that by asking Verizon before she gives it to you. Best luck.
Yes, the Verizon iphone 5/5C/5S WILL all work with t mobile and all GSM carriers out of the box, no unlock required. Voice, text, MMS and data will all work perfectly, but you will get the slower HSPA data speed (a faster 3G speed), not 4G LTE. I'm also on the latest IOS 7 and i can still use my girlfriend's ATT sim, works perfectly.

But somebody told me that it doesn't work well and that the internet does not work at a 4g speed even if i have it at a 4g speed is it worth it?
