Does updating apps on my iPhone 5s take up memory?

The question says it all pretty much. I'm just curious because every update it shows a certain amount of MB next to it so I was wondering if it took up memory

That is the size of the app. The update is smaller than the full app size because it is only downloading the new parts that are updated. The updates do take up more space, but barely any.

Updating process will take up data usage. The apps you downloaded will take up memory. Now, the updated app can be lesser or more than the original one depending on what the developer improved on.

No just the apps do. Not the updates

Not really

Yes. Updating the apps on an iPhone 5s does take up memory.

Yes of course it does.

Depends on if the update is more than the previous version. E.g. If the 1.0 was 4MB & 2.0 is 5MB then it would take up 1MB more.

  • Will updating my iPhone apps affect my phone speed as how updating the Operating System (OS) will? Currently I'm using the iPhone 5s on iOS 8.3 I know if I were to update my phone to the latest OS I may notice some slowdown on my phone's performance, since it may not have the "muscle" to handle certain functions. Many apps now are optimised for iOS 9 and/or the 6th generation phones. Will my 5s' speed performance slow down if I update my apps? Will the app's performance slow down?
  • Will updating my iPhone 4s take up more memory? I still haven't update my iPhone 4s to the latest update due to not enough memory left. I needed 2.8 GB in order to update it, so I deleted a few videos and apps and now have exactly 2.8 GB left of space. If I do the update, will it take up the rest of the space on my phone? (the 2.8 GB considering it needs 2.8 to update)
