Are you calling over 3G? IPhones with iOS 5 or less can only use facetime over wi-fi. Hope this helps
Facetime works on only Wi-Fi for iOS 5.It will work on a mobile network in iOS 6. Make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi before using Facetime.

- Why isn't my facetime cellular working? I have an iPhone 4 running ios 6 on Verizon. And whenever I try to facetime my sister or whoever when I don't have Wi-Fi it never let's me! I'm facetiming her and then it says "no network connection" and it tells me to connect to a Wi-Fi network.

- Iphone 4s facetime not working? Okay well whenever i try to facetime someone it doesn't stop connecting for like 5 min and never answers, i tried to restart my phone and also turn facetime on and off and facetime someone else in the the same room, never connected.
