Found an iPhone 4 but can't activate?

I found an iPhone 4 at the park and I factory reset it, but the original owner has linked it with their Apple ID, meaning I can't activate the phone.

Hand it in to your local cop shop that's the best thing you can do. Don't activate it or try to reset it because apple has "find my iphone" and if the owner tracks you down or reports you trying to use it - you could be found guilty of theft.

Now why would you do that?

Just wrong to do, someone's panicking somewhere and you're just holding onto it.

Lets not forget if the phone is linked to an Apple ID it can be traced and if you get your name on that phone you can definitely be held accountable for stealing a phone and probably charged at best. Trust me, I saw it happen once: friend stole and iPod, owner traced it to our location and only because he was a family friend did he not call the police or press charges.

There's no help to be had. What you've encountered is Activation Lock & there's no way around it.

Eh, just hand it to the cops

How a about "Somebody parked their Escalade in front of my house. I do not have the keys to start it, but I WANT it - so can somebody tell me how to jump the ignition?" There's morally and ethically NO DIFFERENCE between the above scenario, and your THEFT of this phone. And you want US to help you access it? That would lower US to your level of dishonesty. And in all reality it CAN'T be done- to prevent slimy people from stealing phones. Take it to the nearest cellphone store - does not matter which - and they will get it back to its owner, because THEY are honest, unlike… Never mind.

Correct, you can't until the original owner ok's it.

There's nothing you can do about it. Just because you 'found it' doesn't mean that you can keep it. Depending on where you live, you can get into serious legal trouble since you could have stolen property.

Set a good example to your kids, return the phone and you will be happier

We aren't here to help you STEAL.
