Getting out of a Verizon contract?

Ok, so about 15 months ago I purchased an iPhone 5 from Verizon. With the two year contract I saved about 450 on the iPhone. So, I want to get out of the contract and switch because it's too expensive. I know what my early termination fee is but what I don't know is that if I would be charged for what I saved on the phone. Like if I would have to pay that 450 I saved to get out of the contract on top of my early termination fee.

Most likely not. At 15 months, they sell new phones and don't want yours back. They just want it paid for. Pay the ETF which is about $200-250. They might keep your number just for spite and of course it's a ding on the credit report as 'not paid as agreed'. Also find out but I bet they will not unlock that phone when you leave meaning it can only be used on VZW and nothing else.
Just remember they will always get paid for their phones and services--front end or back end--no exceptions.
Not to spoil it but you didn't save anything. At $100 a month for 9 more months you're still -450 in the hole after 'saving the $450' that sounded great until it came back to bite. People versus carriers never win. They always do. Just avoid contracts from now on if you can.
You can try this and just sell the old one to minimize the pain.
Best luck.

I can't imagine why you're asking the question here instead of asking Verizon.

  • Will out of contract Verizon iPhone4s work with foreign sim? I'm traveling to England for about two months and I would like to take a smartphone. However I have AT&T iPhone 4s and it is not out of contract therefore I can't get it unlocked and put in a SIM card from the UK. My friend has offered me her old iPhone 4s and she is with Verizon. I'm not familiar with Verizon at all so I'm not sure if I can slap a SIM card in there or if Verizon will unlock it if I call and get the codes like I could with AT&T.
  • When getting an upgrade on verizon, do you begin a new contract? My iPhone 4 finally broke and i have an upgrade on my verizon plan. I want to get the iPhone 5 using my upgrade. If I do that, is my contract going to restart again for another 2 years, or is the contract I have now going to continue until it is suppose to end?
  • Is there any way of getting iPhone 5 for 199$ and getting rid of the contract? I just want the phone and wanna get rid of the contract without paying for it. I know how to unlock the phone so that's not a problem.
  • Is the iPhone 5s still worth getting in 2015? Is it getting obsolete? My mom might be considering on getting me an iPhone, but she said that i Can't get a 6. She might be getting me a 5s instead. I don't know when yet though. How many years will Apple support software updates? It is already almost two years old and is it still a worth getting?
