How to limit internet usage to one thing?

I'm using personal hotspot from my iPhone to my computer and whenever I connect to my phone I notice that the data usage goes up even though my computer is completely idle. I disabled automatic updates and deleted some processes from the task manager but it still goes up. How can I limit it to one thing like just surfing the web?

Whenever you are using the phone as a hot sport, that act in itself uses "data". The process of creating a hot spot means that it has to be in touch with the Internet and transfer "data" to be a hot spot.

The only way to avoid that data usage is to piggy back off someone else's signal (or go to a place with free Wi-Fi) rather than creating your own hot spot.

  • What is (does) and unlocked iphone (do)? Phones internet usage? I currently own a mytouch 3g phone. I want to upgrade to a better smartphone without having to pay out the A$$. My friend told me to go on ebay and get an "unlocked" iphone. What does "unlocked" mean cell phone wise? I use T-Mobile currently, could an unlocked iphone be used with T-Mobile? How i get internet currently on my mytouch is that i connect to my home Wi-Fi router. Can the iphone do this as well? Or will i have to pay extra for internet use?
  • Under settings on my iPhone, does the data usage include Wi-Fi usage? Because its stating a ridiculous amount and I've had my data off… And my Wi-Fi on. Does the total of data include the amount of Internet I'm using when on Wi-Fi? I'm so confused
  • Save amount of Internet usage on iPhone? I just got a text from my cell network saying I've used over 75% of my data plan for the month already. I don't know how this is possible because I don't even use it for Internet as much as I could… What can I do to cut back the usage?
  • Pay as you go iPhone on o2, internet usage? How does internet usage work on a pay as you go iPhone? Say if I wanted to connect to my Wi-Fi network at home on my iPhone, will it cost me money? What about if I connect to the internet not using Wi-Fi? How much of my credit will it take?
