How to set a song for a ringtone for iphone 4s?
I have followed previous directions about changing the song extension, but it won't add it to my itunes. The phone is synched. I have purchased the song through the store from the ringers folder, but the song is not listed as a ringer, and won't let me choose it. Is the updated version of itunes prohibiting me for adding the file? Does iphone let you transfer files to it when plugged into the computer or does everything have to go through itunes? It is driving me crazy! I have researched this and done everything I can think of.

In iTunes, select the song you want to use as a ring tone. Right click or command click on the song and go to "Get Info" - It should be the second option down. IN the pop up box go to the 5th tab from the left,"Options". There you will see start time and stop time. Use these bars to determine which part of the track you would like to listen too. Most ring tones go for 30-40 seconds and iTunes can't recognise anything longer.
Check "Remember playback position" and hit OK. Select the song in your library and right click on it. From the drop down menu select "Create AAC version" this will give you a second copy of the selected 40 seconds of song allowing you to get rid of any changes made to the original.
Change the file extension of your new track to.m4r
