How to STOP an iphone picking up network signal?

I'm going abroad and i want my iphone to pick up only the Wi-Fi signal at the hotel i'm working at and not the local network as the charges will be huge, can anyone tell me how to do this? 5 stars to who ever can tell me!

If you go on settings and turn on your Wi-Fi and connect it so you have a safe connection to the Wi-Fi. If you then go on settings, click on general and click on network. When you are on network turn off 3g and data roaming so you will not be using any network, just Wi-Fi signal

If you put the phone in aeroplane mode (top of settings) it will disable all network (Phone, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth)
Once aeroplane mode is on just turn Wi-Fi off and back on and it will work on Wi-Fi ONLY
(this will also save a LOT of battery)

Also if you disable cellular data & Data roaming in settings > general > network you can use the phone without data and only use data on Wi-Fi.

You need to go to your settings menu and disable both 3g and cellular data (it may say network data, but it is the same thing). This means you will not be able to make or receive calls, send or receive texts, or use any network data. You will still be able to connect to wi-fi at your hotel, and at wi-fi hotspots, such as those found in pubs/bars, cafes, etc. Be aware that some hotels charge for wi-fi use, especially in your hotel room. Such use may be free in communal areas of the hotel, such as the bar area, foyer, etc. If you are using a hotspot, ensure that you sign out of websites properly, such as your Facebook, email, etc, as other users can "harvest" your details and hack your accounts, if you stay signed in on the network. Mostly this would be a case of not ticking the box that says "keep me signed in" or something of that nature. Forewarned is forearmed, so to speak.

Enjoy your trip abroad, while being aware of the above caveats.

You normally Set Flight Mode
(Settings -> FLIGHT MODE = on )

and yes, if you wanted to be really sure, you could remove the SIM
but it should not be needed.

Rmemeer too, that in europe there are new low rates for use in the EU.

  • Worth picking up an Iphone 4 for $279? It's not the S model, I don't believe, but is that a good price? Or can I find something significantly better for the price? If so, please drop some names for me. Would prefer if this was an established brand - respect by both buyers and tech-savvy reviewers (Cnet.com, etc).
  • Why is my laptop not picking up my Wi-Fi but my iphone is? I have an 'Acer Aspire One Happy 2' laptop that runs on windows 7. I have just gone to my grans and her Wi-Fi works fine on my Iphone 4 but my laptop is not even picking up the signal. My laptop works fine at the Mcdonalds round the corner from me so why isn't it working here. I even typed it in manually and it didn't work, its not picking up any signal at all
  • My iPhone isn't picking up any Wi-Fi? Last week my iPhone's Wi-Fi just stopped working. It isn't picking up any networks, not even at home. My brothers iPhones are working fine on the home network but mine isn't. Whenever I click on it, it just loads and stops - nothing else. It won't let me type the password!
  • My Iphone 6 has issues picking up the Wi-Fi signal? I recently bought an used Iphone 6 online however I was never infomed that the phone had issues picking the Wi-Fi signal. I literally have to be sitting next to the router in order to get Wi-Fi and already tried all the options I've read to fix it. I would like to know what could be wrong with the phone? If one of those repairs store could fix the problem? And around how much would the cost be? If anybody has had the same issue or have seem it before!
