How to stop iphone 3 to keep searching?

It keeps on "searching" after i ended a call and won't go back to the main screen. Also the on/off switch does not work.
How do i fix this?

The home button at the bottom? When buttons go bad, do this.

As for the ended call just hanging there, I'd try a shut down and restart of the phone to see if it persists. Considering it's a 3 there's probably some lag in the processing speed so a frequent reboot (once a month) wouldn't hurt. Sounds like it's fine for it's age otherwise. Best luck.

I called sprint and they tried everything on their end and told me to reset the network settings, even resetting the entire phone, and nothing helped. I read somewhere that the antenna is touchy on these phones and wearing a case may help? I would like to hear any fixes and if anyone else has had these issues.
