How to unlock iPhone 4s carrier?
I got a free iPhone from my brother. Unfortunately it's on a Rogers carrier, while I'm on Bell. Bell Mobility gave me the number to a local cell phone shop, and they said, to unlock an iPhone 4s, it will cost me $120, which I find ridiculous. I searched Craigslist, and the price was $105.
Right now I'm using an old 'loaner' phone, because my original phone broke, and I want to use this iPhone to text and such. Bell Mobility said they can't do anything about it (they won't fix my phone because I was 7 days out of warranty).
Because the phone wasn't mine, is has a different phone number (and a different area code), but I'm sure if Bell gave me a SIM card, or something, they could transfer my number to the iPhone.
I've heard of 'jailbreaking', but I don't quite understand it. Some websites say I need to research a bunch of the carrier company policies, and some say Apple has restricted the use of a jailbreak.
Is there a cheaper way to unlock the phone off of Roger's, and on to Bell, or do I have to pay the $120?

_Usually_, when the contract he bought the iPhone on has expired (generally after two years), the phone has been paid in full and is finally yours (or his).In which case Rogers should unlock it for free or a nominal fee.
If your brother is still paying (the contract) for the iPhone though, he (or you) will have to pay the difference.
