I found an iPhone what should I do?

So today I was at this thing that took stuff for recycling and found this old iPhone. I was really excited for some reason and kept it. I know I shouldn't have but I did anyways. I got even more excited when I could set it up and make it my own. I know, I know, it was a really bad thing to do. I have it now and it's set up. I'm not making any calls or messaging people, but if I did, what would happen? I'm really worried and wish I didn't take the phone. I can't bring it back because the sorting was finished and everyone went home. I'm a very paranoid person, and I don't want to get in trouble with the police or something. What should I do?

I really wish I didn't take the phone. It wasn't mine and it was for the recycling project.

Take it to the provider - ATT, Verizon, etc. Tell them you found it when recycling, and wanted to fool around with it to make sure it worked, and now you want to Do The Right Thing, and get it back to its owner. If the provider says "Thanks - but it's yours now" which they might do, since they want to add you as a customer - then decide what you wish to do. If you are TRULY upset about this - then there are places that will accept phones like this for battered women, rural seniors, military families - but right now, you are holding someone else' property - and you would be upset if you lost YOUR phone. See if there's an ICE (In Case of Emergency) number in it, or anything that identifies it, like someone they call a lot, and you can call them and tell them you found it. Or remain anonymous, and just go to the phone service store. You sound young, and keeping this if it is going to upset you, will make you feel bad for a LONG time. You might also just get lucky, and get to keep this phone - with NO GUILT, after you exhaust all possibilities of trying to return it.

  • Just found an Iphone 4s, should i keep it or sell it? - 1 I was cleaning my truck and found it. I let it charge for a bit turned it on and found out it belongs to a relative. I'm leaning towards returning it to them but the calls/messages are over a month old so they may a have a new one by now. But the little devil on my shoulder is also telling me to keep it instead. It's way better than my current phone(pre paid). Lol if it didn't belong to someone i know i would keep without a doubt. But yeah.

  • I found an iPhone 5 while snorkeling in the Lake. What should I do with it? There's a local tie-up at the lake and some friends and I went snorkeling to see what kind of treasures we could find. Typically it amounts to beer cans and sunglasses, but this time I found an iPhone 5. It was in a lifeproof case, but water did get inside. I dried it out for a few days, and somehow it comes on. The screen is kind of blurry from water damage and home button does not work. Suggestions on what I should do with it?
