If i buy an unlocked Iphone 5 from walmart do i need to buy sim card straight talk?

However, in the comments I began reading some nonsense about not having access to LTE services with the prepaid service and this other stuff about GSM and CDMA. Can anybody explain this to me? Also, say I dislike the straight talk service, can I still take my iphone 5 and get a contract with Verizon or AT&T. Any possible information is greatly appreciated.
