If i found a iphone 5 on a vacation can i sell it?

I found a iPhone on a trip to north Carolina and I live in Georgia. Its locked and I don't know who the owner is. I found it at a pool bathroom did not steal it. And I have no use for it 1 because its locked. So can I just sell it or something?

If i found a iphone 5 on a vacation can i sell it? >> Hmm, not something I would do, I'd return it to an APPLE store and get proof you legally returned it so they could look up the iphones owner!

Of course not, it's stolen, you DID steal it. When you take something that is not yours, it's STEALING. It belongs to someone else, NOT YOU. If you sell it, that is illegal. What you can do is bring it to an Apple store so they can find it's owner.

If you want to do the right thing send it back to the apple store

If you want to do the wrong thing sell it then possible get blamed for stealing.

You basically stole it because you picked up something someone placed down and Took it with you.

Yes, you can sell it after unlocked the iphone and erase the data on it.

That pool place should have an office or place where you can turn it in to lost and found.

You just "found" it, yep, okay, surrrreee. Now, yeah, people do lose their phones. Hello? You hold onto it, keep the details of where you found it, and put a notice out that you have it. Someone will come looking for it. Or, you could have turned it in at the pool where you found it. Or, as some others said, take it to an Apple store.

You can sell it someone who will buy bad ESN phones. Since it has a bad ESN you will get less than what it's actually worth.

Legally, you STOLE the phone by not turning it in to someone that CAN locate the proper owner.
In MOST states, if you turn it into the police, and the owner can't be located within 30 days, you become the legal owner. That said, Apple CAN locate the legal owner of EVERY iPhone ever legally sold.

Of course you stole it. It didn't belong to you and you took it anyway, why would you think that wouldn't be stealing?
Should have been turned into whomever was in charge of the pool.
