Iphone 3gs stuck on apple logo and reboot loop?

So my friend recently gave me his old iphone 3gs and it was jailbroken, but none of the apps (cydia, installous, etc) worked, so i just left it alone for a while. Then i think someone must have played around with it because when i checked a few days after, it went into "safe mode" so i tried to restore but then it froze so i tried to do a hard reset but that just made things worse and now i can't get a response from the phone!

long story short,

iphone was jailbroken
now stuck on apple logo reboot loop
nothing happens when connected to computer

what can i dooo? Someone please help me!

Try pressing the home button and the sleep/wake button at once and hold for 10-15 seconds. I had the same problem years ago and this helped.

The third reboot came up and after a short period of time the apple logo appeared it has stayed there for 8 hours. There's no way I can connect it to my computer because it does not read that the device is there because the device has not fully rebooted. Should I smash the device and use its warranty?
