IPhone 4s unlock with GiffGaff?

I bought an iPhone 4s around a year ago, the thing is two iPhone where posted to my address. I phoned the people I bought it from and told them they said they'll send a pre paid wallet to send it back to, but I never got this. Anyhow a month passed by and after a second attempt at not receiving anything to send the iPhone back I decided to open it and use it as a iPod.

The thing is now I recently tried to put a GiffGaff sim inside and it won't accept saying it needs the original sim, is there any way around this? Am I able to use this phone on a GiffGaff sim.

Hi 1st of all what network is the I-phone on? The reason I ask this is because the giff gaff network will only work in either unlocked or o2 phones so if the phone was in another network then the giff gaff sim won't work in it the phone needs to be unlocked! If the phone was unlocked when you bought it what's probably happened is when the new version of software was installed in the phone then the original settings of the original have been restored in the phone & like I say your need to get it unlocked again. Yes, just contact 3, they should be able to factory unlock the phone

this means that the phone can't be relocked!
