IPhone 5 won't charge correctly?

My iPhone 5 worked & charged just fine but now it won't work unless the charger cable is bent to one side. If I move it or the phone, it will say my phone isn't charging (even though its still hooked up)

I didn't realize this until all night I noticed the battery icon getting "charged", "uncharged","charged", etc & so on.

I looked on some Apple forums and many people said that its not the phone but the cable. And I'd like to think this too because my iPhone only charges if the cable is in a certain position.

Do I need to buy a new charging cable?
And what are ways to prevent this from happening again?

The part that's connected to the phone is what needs to be kept at a certain position. It's bent, but not torn.

Can someone help me or give me any information?

It's definitely the cable's problem, you need to get a new one. Actually iphone 5's cable is really easy to break, people complain about it all the time.

To avoid this:
1. Don't unplug it by pulling the cable line hard, get it off your iphone by the plug part.
2. Don't bend the cable hard.
