IPhone 5 won't send or receive picture messages?

I just got a t-mobile iPhone 5 but I'm not able to send or receive any picture messages. I can only send and receive pictures from a couple friends, who also have iPhone 5's. Funny thing is, I have other friends with the new iPhone but the pictures don't work. I tried resetting the settings and restarting the messages app. In the messages section of settings, I have the iMessage and Send as SMS switches on, but the other ones are off. I really don't want to reset my phone after spending an hour and a half transferring data from my old phone. Any help?

Well I have an iPhone 4 but don't they send you a message and you click on the link or something and it should work?

I have checked the service centre number which is correct, I have updated the ios software thing (I'm not too clever with Apple products but yes it's been updated).It says iMessage is waiting for activation but it has said this for ages now. I have tried absolutely everything with still nothing. I can make calls, use the internet, I can do everything else! I just can't send or receive text messages… Will someone please help me?
