Added (1). I'm not using an Apple brand charger, but it works fine on my mom's iPhone 5 (also iOS 7). I don't think it's charging.
Do a reset hold the home button and lock button at the same time for about 10 secs until the powers off and turns back on. This solve your problem if not you may to go to an Apple store or call your cellphone carrier and ask for tech support.
Either the battery is no good or the charge port needs replacing

The only thing the Google told us was we had to restore it. We get to the DFU mode, plug it in, and when we go to restore it, it asks to restore and update. It can't be updated anymore and says an error, and there's no option to just restore the phone. What do I do?
