To run such apps on iphone you need to update the iso (iphone operating system)… The minimum iso version you need to run such apps is 4.2. You won't have problem installing those apps then.
Have you made sure the Wi-Fi is on and your phone isn't in 'flight mode'?
you will find these settings if you scroll from the bottom of the screen upwards, usually slightly off the screen by the button, scroll up and you'll open a menu, the Wi-Fi and Flight mode buttons are at the top.
May be the version problem of your iPhone. Try get upgrade your Iphone and use FB and skype!
