IPhone losing battery far too early?

My iPhone is shutting down randomly at weird times, but when I try to turn it back on it is saying it needs charging. Sometimes it gets down to 1% as normal and as is expected… And then goes off. But sometimes it can shut down when it has 5%… 10%… Sometimes even 15% battery left. Surely this is not right? Has anyone else had this problem? If so… Do you know how to fix it?

The operating system seems to consider anything less that 20% power to be a critical situation, and it will try to prevent any apps draining the battery below this, presumably so the phone still has some power for emergency calls. The odd shutdowns are possibly a bug.

For some reason, iphones seem to re-start all apps that were in the background when the phone is rebooted, even if it shut down due to a flat battery…

Make sure you regularly clear the list of background apps to minimise unwanted battery drain - eg.double-hit the home button, then either hold & 'subtract' all apps (up to ios6), or flick them off the top of the screen for ios7.

  • Why is my iPhone 5 losing battery? My iPhone is a few months old, it has been working great until a week ago the batter stopped holding. I left it in the car for a few hours and it lost 10 percent. My phone just died at 4 percent battery not one, then when I started charging it it started at 4. Just a minute or two later it went to 13 percent, and it keeps radically increasing. Is there anything I can do?
  • Why is my iPhone 5 losing battery so fast? I got it about a month ago, and the battery's been fine until yesterday. It just started losing battery really fast. This morning, when I put it in my backpack before school, it was at 50%. When I took it out at the end of the day, it was at 36% and I didn't even touch it during the day!
  • My iPhone started losing battery quickly. What should I do? A few days ago, my Iphone 4s started losing battery very quickly. Last night it was at 83%, all applications were closed and then this morning it had lost all power and turned off. I already made the 20 changes in Settings that are supposed to use less battery and this is still happening. I think this is an issue with the phone. What should I do?
  • My iphone 4s is losing battery extremely quick? Lately my phone has dropped battery percentages so quickly. I let my phone charge overnight and it was 100% when I left my house this morning. On my way to work, I used my phone to play music in my car (via bluetooth). When I got to work at 9am it had went from 100% down to 73% in just 45 minutes. Now, it is noon and my phone is on 18%. I haven't used it at all since I got to work this morning besides responding to a few text messages.
