Try deleting and re-adding your email account on the iphone. Also, sometimes your email will block your phone from connecting to the servers if you log on from Wi-Fi at a strange location. So check to make sure that you didn't get a notification that says anything about suspicious sign in prevented, that could be the problem, try both.
Mine does that too log out and log back in go to your settings on your phone look do mail and do it thhere

Many apps now are optimised for iOS 9 and/or the 6th generation phones. Will my 5s' speed performance slow down if I update my apps? Will the app's performance slow down?
