IPhone stuck in Connect to iTunes screen?

I have an iPhone 5 and I just got it not even 4 months ago. It was running on the iOS 6 but upon trying to upgrade to iOS 7, An error message popped up and left my phone in the screen with the USB and an arrow pointing at the iTunes symbol. I forgot the error number from the message though. I've had a iPhone 4 and 4s, both had the same problem whenever I tried updating them but I would usually just put them in recovery mode and fix it that way, this time however, my phone stays on the screen no matter what I do. When I connect it to the comp, the sound of something being connected is heard so the computer recognizes something being plugged in but nothing pops up and iTunes doesn't recognize it. I'm really pissed because I need my phone for work and I use it quite a lot. All apple stores by me are booked completely for days since I live in NYC. I need help As soon as possible please, I honestly am starting to get tired with the same problem with every update I do.

Make sure you update iTunes so that the version is 11.1. Then when you do that connect the iphone to your computer. If you do not get the recovery mode prompt you will have to force it by holding down the power and home button down at the same time for 10 seconds then letting go of the power button but keep holding down the home button for another 6-10 seconds until the recovery mode prompt appears.

It was stupid to try and update via Wi-Fi so early. Doing do at the same time as a billion other people causes these failed updates. That's why you wait a couple days so the server strain eases up. And because of that you had to restore your phone. And unless you have a backup you're going to have to put that stuff back on your phone the hard way.

I tried to do this as well, and after I reset it, holding the home and power buttons on. The phone still won't turn on, and it actually went black.nothing happened in i tunes either.
