Is 1gb of data enough for iphone 5?

I'm planning on purchasing an iphone 5
is 1gb of data going to be enough for someone that would use the internet quite frequently and would involve apps that use internet usage? E.g. Facebook, snapchat and instagram
if not what are some Telstra plans that would offer a good amount of internet usage at a not so expense price?
Secondly if you are logged onto an app like Facebook on your iphone is that using internet data?

If you will to use social media only, it will provably use upto 200-300 mb a month… So that's good

If that's the case you should just get an iPod. I have a 4s with 16 GBs. Most of it is cell phone data. I don't think 1. Fb is enough.

I would be on twitter, instagram and snapchat mostly, but connecting to Wi-Fi when available. Also should i turn my data off everytime i can connect to Wi-Fi to save data or will it not be used when connected to Wi-Fi? When should i turn data off.

I browse Facebook and Twitter every hour or two hours depending on where I'm, and search Google once a day or once every two days. When I'm at home, I will connect to the Wi-Fi. I will get a 1GB internet data allowance per month: is this enough for my daily internet needs?
