Is it free to send picture messaging on Iphone?

I have a 4s iphone on 3 and I'm on contract but sometimes it adds additional charges on and now this months is £2.18. The breakdown of it shows it's from picture messaging but I thought this would surely be free and why is it so expensive I only sent like 2/3. When I'm on Wi-Fi it sends as a text message sometimes and so charges, it only doesn't when sending a pic to an ipod! I dunno I'm not good this technology help! Xx

The phone provides the physical capabilities, but the plan with the carrier determines what services are available at what cost.

I use iPhone on EE and it's reasonable and cheaper than three in pays as you go

On most plans for the iPhone, mms or multimedia messaging is part of the contract. However, it is possible you only have sms which would allow you only to send text based messages, no pictures. The iMessage feature on the iphone is a free mms service between two different Apple devices. Therefore, if you are under Wi-Fi, and are texting another friend with say an iphone 5, the picture sent will be free, but if you do the same thing with a friend with an android phone, it will cost you some money depending on the price per mms your carrier charges.

Picture messages are free on the iPhone only if sent to another iPhone I'm afraid.

Your carrier shouldnt' charge for that, if you send via imessage then all are free even if sending pictures, etc.

It is called a MMS and every network charges extra for MMS messages, the only way you can do it and have it included in your allowance is when you are sending the picture to another iphone and then only through iMessage.

If you are sending them through iMessage then they won't cost extra as it uses data instead unless there's a problem with the connection and in that case MMS will take over but you can turn off the MMS capability in your phone by going into settings and then messages.

Networks have had this hold for years and it is a total rip off but perfectly legal and they are within their rights to do it, the website will clearly explain what the price is to send a MMS but most modern phones have some kind of app where you can send pictures using only data.

Only free if sent to an other Iphone

  • Why can't my iPhone send or receive pictures in text messaging? My dad bought me the iPhone 4S unlocked. I got the prepaid service at tmobile which was 50$ unlimited talk text and web. I can't send pictures during text messages and I can't receive them. If someone sends me a picture I don't get it, it's just blank. The little camera icon next to the text area to type is light grey indicating I can't press on it. I can only send or receive during iMessage. Please tell me why this is happening.
  • STRAIGHT TALK, iPhone 4 picture and video messaging not working? I just switched from AT&T to Straight Talk for the everything unlimited plan. • Is Wi-Fi text messaging from iphones free to non-iphones? - 1 My boyfriend downloaded this texting thing on his iPhone that allows him to text me when he's out of the country without charging him extra for long distance. Will I still be charged if I text him? There's a different number when he texts from Wi-Fi so I will be sure to text that, but will I be charged anyways?
