Is my eBay buyer scamming me?

I know this is a long drawn out story… I'm new to eBay and this is the first thing I have sold. I got the new iPhone and figured I would sell my old iPhone. It was in excellent condition (as I described), I had always had an otterbox or protective case on and everything was in total working order (I had used it that morning and put it up for sale that night). Someone bought it and had good feedback and I sent it the next day. It got there over a week ago and yesterday I received a message saying that "power button no work and scratches in middle frame. It no turn on. Why you no tell me?". I explained that the item was exactly how I described when shipped and he asked for $10 partial refund or full refund. He asked for me to send money then he will send phone. I called eBay and they told me to not give him money until I received it. I told him that and he opened a dispute case. I said I would do a $20 partial refund or full when I receive the phone. It has been well over a day and I have heard nothing. My money in PayPal was held and I don't know what to do. I think that I'm being "scammed" and taken advantage of. Help me figure out what to do next!

How long until I contact eBay with my buyer not responding?

It is a scam. Just to satisfy eBay, you should offer a full refund, less shipping fees AFTER buyer returns the phone in the same condition as when you shipped. I hope you took pictures and kept a record of the serial number.

eBay is so full of scammers like the one you encountered that I don't understand why people continue using their service. Sadly, eBay and PayPal more often side with a scammer than the victim.

This is why I like craigslist so much better, at least you meet in person and check it over then, and cash only exchange. Just always meet in daytime in a crowded parking lot area.

Do not give this guy any money. Ebay told you not to until the item is in your hands. If its not in your hands don't pay for any refund.

  • Mom is worried about ecoatm scamming my I.d? So I'm planning on selling my iPhone, but ecoatm needs to scan my drivers license to verify that I'm 18 or older. My mom is worried about my identity being stolen. Has anybody ever had their identity stolen from one of these machines?
  • Is ebay buyer trying to scam me? An ebay buyer bought an iphone 3gs from me 1 month ago and he is barley telling me now that it doesn't work. He opened a case against me stating that the item wasn't as described. Hes had the item for a month and hes barley telling me now, is this a scam from the buyer? If so what do I do? Note: I put no refunds or exchange on my listing.
  • Do I have to give a refund to ebay buyer? I'm in a big situation. This lady bought an iPhone from me and I shipped it off in an envelope. I even added a tracking number so she can see it when it would arrive. Problem is, she said she received it, but there was nothing inside the envelope. Do I have to give her a refund or am I not at fault? On the receipt, it shows that the weight of the envelope had something in there. Is that enough evidence, or am I forced to lose out on money?
