Is quicktime required to restore iphone?

I have to restore my iphone to the latest release of iOS and am wondering if quicktime is required? I'm under the impression that quicktime is just a media player. I don't need anymore media players so I don't want to install it.

Yes. It is. It's an essential part of iTunes that allows you to play videos and view pictures.

You don't have to. They just recommend it so they can gather more information about your computer.

  • Why does my iphone randomly say activation required? So the other day I was just using my iPhone 4 running IOS 6 beta and I had shut down my iPhone completely for about 2 hours and then when i turned it back on, it said "activation required and it wants me to connect to Wi-Fi to connect to apples activation servers. It will not let me get to my home screen and everytime I try to activate it it tells me to try again later. BTW, it also says no service at the top of my iPhone. • QuickTime Player on iPhone 4? When I tried watching a video after getting my screen replaced the videos will show up and not let them play. And my Internet does everything just fine and runs fine, but it won't play videos. I can download them with a app and watch them but otherwise nothing will play without downloading them. And it's not certain videos, it's every browser, app and Internet site won't play videos. Do I need to restore it or will that help?
