Oxazepam and Propanalol for Fear of Flying how long to take effect?

I'm going to south africa in a months time and i suffer from panic attacks in certain situations. I have been perscribed the above which my gp said to take the propanalol a week before i fly and the other when i maybe get anxious at the airport. I meditation daily so am aware of techniques to make me breath properly i also have my iphone and 3ds to take my mind of things so i'm going with my wife and 5 year old so i have to be strong for them as its my childs first time flying. Flight is 14hrs so can anyone advise on when the oxazepam will start to work i have 10mg tablets… Please help

Oxazepam is one of the slowest acting benzos and is prescribed for mild anxiety
If you need a fast acting one, you'd be far better off getting Valium which acts within 30 minutes
in most people
Propanalol only regulates heart rate, and is not a benzo

Oxazepam is a long acting tranquiliser that takes at least an hour to work. It is also used in higher doses to help anxiety sufferers sleep; it may make you feel drowsy.

Propranolol is a commonly prescribed beta blocker that works by reducing adrenaline levels and calming the physical symptoms of anxiety. I liked taking propranolol as it left my mind fully alert and not sedated. Initially you may feel a little woozy if you stand up too fast as it may lower your blood pressure. This will pass.

I'm also scared of flying but have made it to Australia from the UK a few times. I always have an aisle seat and keep myself occupied so that I can ignore the fact that I'm on a plane. Kids have no innate fear of flying and tend to love it; you can simply tell him that daddy isn't feeling well but you're OK. If you fuss over him you can make him anxious and phobic too.

Your wife does not need you to be strong for her either, let her support you instead. I have actually missed take off as I've been chatting and laughing so much. I'm sure she can entertain you for a while.

Best wishes, A x

  • What can I use to attach iPhone to a flying drone? I'm a proffesional photographer mainly photographing cars, and this Sunday is the weekly car show that I go to and my friend has a hovering drone that he is going to bring. We're trying to figure out how we can attach his iphone to it so it stays secure so that we can take pictures/videos that will turn out good to put on my photography page. We've considered Velcroe/Tape so far but are not sure. Any recommendations/help would be appreciated thanks.
  • How long does it take an iPhone to recharge after it had been dead a long time? My cousin just gave me her old iPhone 5. It's in good condition but it's been sitting in her drawer for months. I don't know how many months but a pretty long while. Anyways, i out it on the charger and it hasn't moved from the red. It's been on maybe… At least a half hour. Is it okay? I don't know anything about these machines lol.
  • It's 2014 shouldn't we be having flying cars by now? I'm 20 and I grew up on a lot of science fiction. So when I looked to see the future I thought we would be more advanced than this. Sure some of the technology we have is quite impressive like: video games, computers, the Internet, HD TVs, smartphones and tablets, etc. But other than that the world still looks the same. Where is my flying car, my jetpack, my robot butler, moon colonies, phaser rifles, domed cities, underwater cities, food pills, etc? Why does the future suck so much?
  • If I take 30$ out of my paycheck weekly? How long would it take me to save up for iPhone 6? I'm 14 and I'm working at publix this summer. I'll make about 9$ an hour.I'll work about 3 days a week for about 7 HR. The phone is 600$
