If your child gets kidnapped with an iPhone you could ask it your exact location and they could send it to anyone parents 911 friends close by. ANYONE! But parents could always tell there child who. Parents could also restrict certain things like if you don't want your child to have certain apps, games, or social media you can restrict them from downloading apps or certain websites. This generation everyone has a phone or mostly an iPhone or smartphone.

Social media plays a big part in kid's/teen's lives and 90% of social media is only accessible through ios and android. If they can't get a phone they can install a android emulator, I recommend bluestacks.

None at all, a simple phone to make calls with is enough for a kid.

Only reason any child should have a cell phone of any type, is because their parents want them to have it.
Everything else is a want of the child for the most part.

I got a phone in 6th grade. Originally I was getting a slider because my parents didn't want me to have a smartphone, but its too hard to text on a flip. I ended up getting a smartphone because there werent any sliders.

I got one because I was going to a bigger school where I'd be staying after more and riding the bus home, and it was just a form of communication.

I wouldn't say a smartphone is necessary, or even a phone period in some scenarios. I wasn't supposed to get one until I was 16.

No reason for iPhone at 12, you need a flip phone

I can't think of any reasons why you'd even want an iPhone or any other phone. The LAST thing I wanted when I was a kid, was for my parents to be able to reach out and contact me whenever they wanted and where ever I was. Glad I didn't have that means of communication back then.

When I was in 6th grade(2012-2013), I was in the same position as you. I wanted an iPhone, and my parents wouldn't get me one. People made fun of me in school. I wasn't able to contact my parents them, and they weren't able to contact me. It was terrible.
But then in May 2013, my parents finally got it. And it was great. I was able to contact them to tell them I was staying after school. I was able to have a social life. They were able to annoy me about the mess I left in the house.
Now I bet you're wondering, why did I tell you this story? Because I was in your position. I know what it's like. I was your age when I first wanted my iPhone. Have you ever heard the phrase "put yourself in someone else's shoes"? Perhaps you need to do it backwards. Help your parents squeeze into your shoes, remember what it was like when THEY wanted a cell phone, and help them relate to you better.
