Restoring disabled iphone 5s?

There's been a disabled iphone (we have no idea where it came from) laying around my house for years (the home screen simply says iphone is disabled please connect to itunes)
i've gotten it to the restoring/recovery stage but itunes seems to be taking awhile ("itunes is downloading the software for this phone." )
i was just wondering if anyone could explain things to me/give me a hand!

Added (1). it hasn't been that long really; 10 minutes maybe? But my laptop tends to lag so i got anxious quickly, so if someone could give me an rough estimate of how long it should take that would be great!

actually, it finished and now it's just back were we started (disabled screen) i have no idea what has happened to it or anything

You'll need to chat with Apple. Chances are, this was reported lost and disabled to make it useless. Apple will need to activate it, and might not do it.

  • Restoring my iphone, how do i get my stuff back? I tired to jailbreak my Iphone and it didn't work. But in the process it deleted all of my photos and filled the space in my phone with "other" (what you see when you plug it into itunes. I want to restore my phone and get it back to the way it was before i tried to jail break it, how do i do that?
  • Restoring lost iphone photos after update? Right, basically my dad is a right techno noob and he has not backed up his iphone since january (or so it says). He has recently just installed the new ios6 and after this he has lost all of his photos and is only able to get a back up from that of january. Surely itunes would have backed it up before the update? It doesn't look as though the photos are on the phone at all, but i was wondering if they would have been stored anywhere? any help would be great
  • Restoring iphone, but keeping apps and contacts? It was getting a bit slow, and I want to restore it so its clean and fresh. My contacts are synced through icloud, so how will I get them back when the phone is restored? also, my apps will still be in itunes so I can resync them as well correct?
  • Problems restoring my iphone? I jailbrok my iPhone 4s. I wanted to take fo the jailbreak so i went to restore it. It downloaded the lastest verion of apple and the started up the phone. When I went to activate it it says there were problems with connection how can i fix this?
