Should I get the Samsung Galaxy S4 or iPhone 5S?

I've had my iPhone 4 for almost two years now and want to get a new phone. I was planning on buying the new iPhone 5S until my friends suggested that I look into the S4. I can't decide.

Apple makes solid phones, that do the job well. Maybe this is just me, but when I buy a new phone that I'm stuck with for 2 years, I don't mind the flash. No one cares if you have the new S4, but I gauruntee a gold 5s will draw attention. It will take fantastic pictures, and work. Isn't that what you want it to do at the end of the day? I don't care if I can turn it on with my face 80% of the time on an S4, I would rather have a solid well made phone, that works well. If anything, I do like the body and styling of the HTC one. I love a crisp screen and metal body, so If your going android, try that. Why spend 2-300 dollars on cheap plastic casing?

The 5S is the same boring device.

You might not like this answer, but it's really up to you.

Do you want to continue using the iPhone, or are you looking into trying something different? Do you want a bigger screen, or stick to a reasonable size that can fit nicely in the palm of your hand? Do you prefer customisation or simplicity? They're both great devices, believe me, but they both have their pros and cons.

The iPhone offers an simplistic phone that's easy to manoeuvre straight outside the box, and I personally think the iPhone 5S is a pretty good upgrade unlike a lot of people who call it a "boring" phone or the "same old thing." (I'm assuming you've looked into the iPhone 5S specs since you're considering buying it.) If you're comfortable with the iPhone and you like it, then get the iPhone 5S. The build quality is great, knowing Apple, and it's definitely worth upgrading if you have the iPhone 4. You should stick around until the release of iOS 7 though, it seems good (even though I didn't think so when I initially saw it) and refreshing, something the iPhone needed especially when iOS 6 started getting dull.

But, if you want to try something different, the S4 is an excellent choice. It has great specs such as a 5 inch Full HD Super AMOLED (1920x1080) display, 1.9 GHz Quad-Core Processor, and loads of features, even some the iPhone 5S doesn't have, like NFC connectivity. The outside is made out of polycarbonate with a removable back, with does not have a high-end feel in comparison to the aluminium finish of the iPhone 5S, but that depends on your preferences. Being an Android, it allows for a lot of customisation - something that just isn't possible with the iPhone unless you jailbreak it. So if you dig that, you'll like the S4. But don't just limit yourself to the S4, there's other good Android phones out there, such as the HTC One. It's just as good, or even better than the S4 in some aspects.

Personally I'm getting the iPhone 5S because I'm very familiar with the design and interface (I've had the last two generations of the iPhone beforehand for 4 years - 3G and 4), I like the simplicity and productivity of it and I just find it more convenient to upgrade to a newer version of my phone rather than getting used to a completely different type of phone. I'm happy with the iPhone, but that's just me.

Ultimately it's just a matter of taste. Even though I personally prefer the iPhone 5S, the S4 is definitely a great choice (It didn't sell 20 million units in 2 months for nuthin') and with whatever phone you choose, you will not regret it.
