Text messages marked as read?

So I know that on the iPhone there's an option where when you read someone's text message it will tell the other person that you've read it. Does this apply to android phones as well? I have an android (smartphone) and I DO NOT want people to know when I've read their text messages. If the android has this option, how do I turn it off? If it doesn't have this option, when I text someone who has an iPhone can they still see when I've read their message no matter what?

No, I have an android and they don't mark it as read when you see the message.

Texting makes no sense to me. I would rather just talk to people.

No, even on iphones the receiver has an option to turn that off in the settings so no one knows.

So we met up showed my on the computer that the ESN was clean said it wasn't stolen etc. A couple hours later when I go to my local sprint to activate it, the lady told me it was stolen and that they can't activate it. I have a new phone now that's not the problem, it's just now I have a beautiful new iPhone, that I don't know what to do with.

I have my accounts hooked up to iCloud, so if I read an email on my iPhone or Mac, it should count it as read on the other device. It has worked, but sometimes it doesn't. What can/should I do?
