What do I need to get Hulu or Netflix?

I want to get rid of cable and get Hulu Plus or Netflix. I don't have internet or a computer. I know I need internet and I have a iphone 5. What speed internet do I need and do I need Wi-Fi? Your talking to a dummy when it comes to technics stuff. Can someone take me through the steps?

You do need internet access - I have a WDTV western digital tv until that you plug into your tv and is wireless. You can access netflix, hulu, youtube, etc

or you can get a roku - I would get either their highest transfer rate or the second highest. Mine never lags. Works great.

BTW - get an anntenna for the tv. It is HD and picks up all the local channels and major networks.

And just to let you know - since you will need Wi-Fi if you get it from a cable co - sometimes they only charge $10 for "basic" but if you don't want to go that route I would still check to see if a signal is coming thru. It was for me. LOL.

Also - buy your own modem - that gets rid of a $7.00 charge per mo. All you have to do is call them and give the serial no of it. Make sure you buy the right one.

Hulu+ and you need at least low-medium speed internet. Netflix has a horrable selection of movies/tv shows while hulu+ has everything.

As Zachary pointed out, you need a medium speed internet connection from a local provider. Also, you need to have unlimited usage. An aircard from Verizon/ATT/Sprint/TMobile is not a good idea because they have a very low data allowance per month (5-10GB per month) where as home internet services like Charter/Comcast/TimeWarner/ATT/Verizon have 150-300GB per month. Streaming media uses a lot of data so using a cell phone provided internet card is not a good option. Hulu+ is good for up to date TV shows and a little selection of movies. Netflix is good for a large selection of movies and documentaries, although they are not new releases, most are years old. I got rid of my television subscription and got both Hulu+ and Netflix. They both have a trial period so try them both out and see which one you like better. I do find myself watching more Hulu+ because they are constantly adding new programming. Also, since you have an iPhone5, if you have a TV with an HDMI input, you can get an adapter that will connect your iPhone to the TV so you don't have to watch it on your phone. You will need Wi-Fi, most of the internet providers will install a Wi-Fi router in your home. Like Sara pointed out, you can purchase your own modem/router for around $80 and you won't have to pay a rental fee to the internet provider. Once you have internet and Wi-Fi there are many devices you can use to access hulu/netflix. You can use a Bluray player, roku box, WD Live Drive or your Phone. All have the capability of connecting to your TV and streaming netflix and hulu.

The other suggestions were good. I think a Roku would be the best choice. But if you're a real simpleton as far as the Internet is concerned. I'd do these steps:

First you need to have an internet connection to your home. Then hand your Iphone to the installer and ask him to put set-up Wi-Fi on your phone, write down the password. Then get $35 chromecast. Plug it in your TV's HDMI connector. Brief set-up where you tell Chromecast your Wi-Fi password. And if you have already Hulu Plus and Netflix already set-up on your Iphone you'll be good to go. With that option the video you play on your phone will be on your TV.

  • Why Can't I Login to Hulu Plus? My family and I have Hulu Plus through our Apple TV. We had Netflix for quite some time and it worked both on Apple TV and on all our devices.iPhones, iPods, iPads, iMac, you name it we could watch Netflix on it. For some reason we can't use the Hulu Plus app on anything other than Apple TV, and the website says "Invalid Username or Password:. ANYONE KNOW WHAT'S UP?
  • What animes on Hulu plus are dubbed? I've tried to watch a few of my favorite animes like naturo bleach and one piece but they are all subbed is there a setting I have to change or do they just not have dubbed ones? Also this is in my iPhone 4 that I will be watching them.
  • If I get Netflix for my iPhone can I stream the video through my Xbox? I know it's possible to get Netflix on Xbox however I live in an area where dialup is my only Internet option. I use my iPhone for pretty much all Internet services.
  • How to get rid of Netflix subtitles? Please help I asked this before but I got answers that didn't work on my iPhone/iPad is there a different way of doing that for these devices please help!
