What does the cloud icon mean in iPhones App Store? - 1

I recently purchased a new phone which was an iphone 5s. I went to download the Facebook app but there was a cloud with a down arrow in it. I pushed this icon and it starting downloading Facebook again. Is this linked to iCloud? I don't want to use iCloud and have never logged into it. But my brother has it. Does that mean if Facebook is downloaded through iCloud on my phone that it will be downloaded on his and he can go through my Facebook page. We have joint phone accounts. I don't use iCloud as don't want him or anyone else seeing my data on other devices.

ICloud is where your purchased apps are safe, so if you downloaded a payed app, its automatically synced to iTunes so you don't have to sync your iPhone to iTunes all the time just to save stuff you downloaded music, photos and apps.

No your brother won't be able to go onto your Facebook page with iCloud, all your information is private.

If you want to turn off iCloud, you can do so by going into your settings and turn off iCloud. It is automatically synced with your iTunes account. I think iCloud makes things easier imo.

As far as iCloud, yes any previously downloaded apps on that account, not currently installed on the phone will be stored in iCloud for future downloads.

As far as not seeing each other's data you or he would have to make a new Apple ID (what you called phone accounts). As it is the 2 of you'll would be reachable via iMessage using the same Apple ID therefore will be able to see each other's messages to & from and as you know by now apps downloaded as well.

What does the grey cloud and arrow pointing down mean?
