What exactly does the do no disturb setting on the iPhone do?

I recently update my phone to the iOS6 and I really wanna know what it does

Press it

When you receive notifications, texts, emails and calls, it will not notify you. You will still get them but it will prevent your screen from lighting up!

I find it useless, i used it last night on my iphone 5 but it didn't even work, i still got notified by phone calls and text messages.

When it's active, your phone won't emit alerts for notifications and calls. It will only alert for calls if it it's turned on in settings and you receive 2 calls from the same person or from important contacts.

  • What exactly does the iPhone backup back up? I'm going to update my iPhone software (finally!) and I'm worried that all of my data won't be saved. For example, will I have all of my notes, picture folders, app data, emails, etc? I'm terrified that I'll lose my notes. I can email them to myself if need be and there's really no way to back it up, but I'd like to aboid that tedious process if possible.
  • What does the do not disturb switch do? On my IPhone, I wanted to see what the "Do Not Disturb" button does. Everything worked, messages, emails, and calls. What does it do?
  • What does the do not disturb button do on iPhone 4? I put it on bc when I sleep I don't want my parents seeing that I got a text or call but my friend just texted me when I wanted to sleep and i don't know why it's not working bc isn't it not suppose messages to come or calls
  • What Does Restoring An iPhone Using iTunes Do Exactly? I have a jailbroken iphone 4. Yesterday, I deleted a file from the system of the iPhone using iExplorer on Windows (I deleted the file so that I fix an issue), The issue I was having was gone after deleting the file from system. The question: If I restore my iPhone using iTunes to factory settings, I know the jailbreak would go, but will the DELETED file reappear again? Thanks for reading, now you can answer (if you know it) :D
