On the phone itself, you don't NEED any apps if you don't want any. Just go through the App Store and see what looks useful to you. Most people will get social apps and messengers like Facebook, Twitter, Google Hangouts, Skype etc.
You need: Word, Excel, OneNote, Lync, Skype.
But buying a Windows Phone in the first place would have been MUCH easier.
