Verizon is a CDMA network. You can't just pop a sim card into a GSM phone and use it on CDMA. You can either get another phone or a sim card for AT&T.
Verizon is CDMA thus no SIM card. As you'll be living in US for a month, just get a prepaid SIM from StraightTalk or metroPCS. They provide good internet data and unlimited calls and texts within US. Their coverage is also good especially, StraightTalk.
