The Galaxy S6, per AT&T's website, costs $684.99. The LG G4, per AT&T's website, costs $629.99. The HTC One M9, per AT&T's website, costs $708.99. The iPhone 6, per AT&T's website, costs $649.99. Because every company is in business to make a profit. The business needs the money to pay the workers and taxes and building fees and also for the materials.

Apple is charging a premium for its device because it has high brand recognition. You really are paying for a decent (not great) phone with a nominal phone experience. Apple then slaps on its logo, and suddenly everyone considers it a masterpiece. It's kind of like when a cheap worthless item is autographed by a famous sport player. The item then gains several times the amount of value it was originally worth.

Because they can be. They are not inherently expensive, it's just what the market will allow.

The Galaxy S6 retails for more than the iPhone 6 & the Edge model for $100 more on top of that, so if you think iPhones are expensive, look again.

As far as other phones from other makers, OSs, they roughly are the same price.

  • Why iphones are so expensive? They claim to have quality materials but one drop its all over with it. Anyway what justify the price. Some smart phones can perform the same for a less price (with similar features). Is it because an iphone is popular? The phone doesn't even have a radio FM, and has battery issues most of the time. I just don't get it.
  • Why everybody think iPhones are expensive? I mean i hate iphone yes they are expensive for the price you pay for what you get… but they are at the same price with many android phones like xperia z, galaxy s4, note 2, htc one, htc butterfly
  • Why are used iPhones so expensive? What does unlocked mean? I just sold my 2 year old iphone 4 for $240 on eBay. Why are they selling so high? What do they do with them?
  • Why are iPhones so much more expensive in england than america? I was just browsing around on the Apple site, and I was having a look at the iPhone 5 when I realised that I was on Apple USA site not the UK, and switched to the UK site. The iPhone 5 on the US site said from $199 but when I went on the UK site it said from £529! That is like $788 dollars! Why the hell is the iPhone 5 (and basically any iPhone model/apple product) so much more expensive in the UK? 199 dollars and 788 dollars is a huge difference.
