Why can't my ps3 and iphone pick up the 5GHZ frequency from my time warner cable internet?

Why can't my ps3 and iphone pick up the 5GHZ frequency from my time warner cable internet?

Because there are two differnet wireless frequencies, and some chips are designed to detect one, or the other, or both. The ones in the PS3 and some iPhones only access the more common 2.4 GHz range.

There are actually few devices that can us 5ghz Wi-Fi, because very few people have a 5Ghz router to connect them. Your devices are older, there wasn't really anything on the market for 5Ghz until this summer. And it will probably stay that way until next summer.

5gHz is used by 802.11n.

The PS3 does not support 802.11n.

Neither do older iPhones.

This is OK. 802.11G is still plenty fast enough streaming videos, downloading stuff, and gaming.

And did I mention that the antennas in most cable company's routers suck? Because they do. I ended up buying a separate router and wiring it to the cable company's router in the other room. Now I get much better Wi-Fi coverage and better security.

  • Time Warner Cable Wi-Fi problem? My wireless internet isn't working. Everything else is working, including my cable and wired internet. I went to the router and pressed the reset button in the back and nothing worked, everything turns on and the 'sync' green button just stays lit. I checked all my cables to see if they're loose and still nothing. MY iPhone 5s connects to the Wi-Fi, but nothing loads when I press Safari, so I know its working. What's the problem?
  • Piggybacking walkie talkie frequency? How would I go about using my personal walkie talkie or my iPhone to piggyback onto my work's walkie talkie system and mess with them?

  • Is time Warner cable frustrating to anyone else? I've noticed that my Internet is very slow throughout the day, even if I'm the only person in the house using it. It is slow from about 2pm to 12am. It does speed up rapidly around 1 In the morning. I've been wondering if the are throttling their services and if anyone else has this problem. If you can explain why this may be happening, any help would be great. Also, I can promise that it is not my computer, as it is also the same case on my iPhone and iPad.
