Wi-Fi dropping constantly, on my computer only?

On my desktop, not old, windows 7, the internet connection keeps going out for like a minute or two, a bunch of times a day. Its not disconnected totally, just has that little yellow exclamation mark. My iphone which also uses Wi-Fi is just fine, as is every other device in the house. I updated driver for my adapter a year or so ago but that didn't fix the problem (this has been going on for a while obviously)

Update your Wi-Fi drivers, if that won't work, then buy external Wi-Fi adapter.

Download Wi-Fi analyzer on a phone or tablet device and see if you have an overlapping signal on the same channel. This is usually the cause. It will also show if the signal is just weak in your room. The fix could be as simple as switching the Wi-Fi channel on the router to a channel that is not used by somebody else.

This happened in our house. But only in one room. Turned out that room was close to another router on same channel. Same exact problem.

***EDIT*** Forgot to mention that cordless phones use the same channels. And yes, update the drivers. I had a laptop with a driver issue that kept turning off the Wi-Fi adapter. But it showed it turning it off.

Wi-Fi often does not work properly with desktop computers, due to a combination of screening & reflections from the case and interference from the motherboard.

Connect it via an ethernet cable, a par of homplug ethernet devices or as a last resort only get a USB extension lead and use a USB Wi-Fi dongle placed well away from the PC case.

You may be getting interference from neighbouring wireless signals.
1)Change the broadcast channel on the router to channel to a less congested one than the current. You can download netstumbler or inssider (google them) and they will display the broadcast channels of any neighbouring Wi-Fi networks

2)Turn off any baby alarms cordless phones wireless doorbells as these use the same 2.4Ghz frequency

3)Update the firmware of the router and drivers for your PC/laptop

  • Wi-Fi keeps dropping on my iPhone 4? Nothing is wrong with my Wi-Fi but I'll constantly have to put my iPhone back on Wi-Fi about every 30 mins or less. Why? (And this is being in the same spot, my house. )
  • Why is my iPhone 5 keep dropping calls? I just got a iPhone 5 and when I'm on the phone with my friend it keeps dropping his calls do anyone know why that is happening?
  • Why does my wireless keep dropping? I'm with BT and have a black BT home hub but on my laptop my wireless connection keeps dropping. It doesn't drop on my xbox, iPhone or iPad but it does on my laptop? Anyone know what the problem could be? Maybe even how to fix it
  • Why does my computer constantly lose internet connection? I have had an hp envy for about a year and ever since the first day it would connect to my router and in 30 seconds it will say i have no network connection or no internet connection. I thought it was the new router i got but i replaced it and this still happened, all of my other Wi-Fi devices (iphone, ipad, xbox 360, wii) connect fine and never have this problem. Why does my laptop do this and how can i fix it?
