Will a stolen iphone be covered on travel insurance if stolen from locked hotel room?

My iphone 5 was stolen from my hotel room on my first day of my holiday 2 weeks ago and i don't have insurance on the phone itself but i heard possessions could be covered on holiday my insurance is with halifax and i reported the theft to the hotel, thompsons and the police and have reports from all however on the police report i was given from the spanish tourist police who didn't speak a word of english, it says in small print that it has no legal value.Id love to know wether i could claim this on the travel insurance or not.

It all depends if the policy you took out covers persoanl belongings
If you didn't then forget it

THEN they might insist on seeing proof that you actually bought one (its easy to call the police and claim your phone was stolen, but what proof do they or the insurers have that you aint lying and you never had one in the first place)

THEN the insurance company might regard leaving it in a hotel room (locked or unlocked) as being negligent unless there were signs of forced entry into the room
