Will I Use Data on my iPhone Using Google Maps?

I Have AT&T and I Just Downloaded Google Maps on My iPhone 5

Well, I Have to Drive from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Detroit, Michigan Tomorrow

I Don't Know The Way So, I Was Planning on Using This App
Will It Use My Data or is it Going to be Free?

Well the information won't come by voice or text.

Since you will be driving and not connected to any sort of Wi-Fi, then yes, you will be using data from AT&T which you could go over on if your plan isn't big enough. You will get a text from AT&T if your data is being close to going over.

Google maps app is not a stand alone app, meaning, it requires an active internet connection to work. It does not store or have maps and data on to your phone, but get all of this from a server. So yes, it will use data. If you are planning to use it often, best to get a decent data plan. No worries though if you use it with Wi-Fi in your home, or cafes, etc.

Yes, this will use data. I recommend going on-line tonight and downloading and printing driving directions from google maps so you'll have a hard copy of your directions and won't need to keep your phone "on" google maps eating data the entire drive.

Or you could stop at a convenience store and buy a map…

Just get on the PA turnpike and head west. It will eventually become the OH turnpike. When you get to Toledo, head north on I-75.

  • Yelp or the new google maps for iphone? What's up guys. I recently downloaded the new google maps app for the iphone, which I believe is fantastic. I've noticed that you can search for places like restaurants, and etc, more or less like yelp does. My question is should I still stay with the Yelp app or just use google maps for looking for other stuff besides directions?

So has anyone used iphone maps or google maps app on long distance trips? Or I just better use old gps?
