Will iMessage on iPhone use data?
I got an iPhone but I do not have data. Can I still use iMessage without it charging me for using data?
If you're paying for an "unlimited" text plan and a "limited" data plan, there's no advantage for you in using iMessage. Use regular text messages.iMessage uses data because it sends the message through the internet. Texting goes through your provider and is paid with in your service where it says texting.
IMessage does use a small amount of data if you are not on Wi-Fi. I would suggest switching to regular text messaging.
All iPhones must have a data plan as they are smartphones. You could use iMessage without a data charge through a Wi-Fi connection.
- Is it free to use IMessage with your data internationally? Or is that only using Wi-Fi? I have a friend who is from Canada and I'm from the US. And he has an iPhone and so do i. He said that we can text on our phones for free internationally using iMessage, but what I've heard is that it's only free if you're using Wi-Fi. What about your data? Is it still free when I go out and am away from Wi-Fi and use my data? My messages still appear blue when I message him with my data but I'm concerned that it's not completely free when doing so.

But then I heard that using iMessage uses data. I have 4 GB and I'm just wondering if I text kind of a lot using iMessage if it would kill my data? - If I keep my data on but also use Wi-Fi will it use my data? I just got an iPhone from us cellular. I use Wi-Fi to save data, but I can't receive group messages if my data isn't on. If I keep my data on all the time, but use Wi-Fi, will it use my data? And if I keep both on will it use my Wi-Fi instead of data?
- I just got the iPhone 5s, Does iMessage use my data when I'm connected to Wi-Fi? I only have 5gb of data a month. Will iMessage use my data up when connected to Wi-Fi? also, when i leave the house and I'm no longer connected to Wi-Fi, will iMessage cost me? I don't want to go over my bill!
